I like that you recommend to think about how the construction will affect the surrounding neighbors. I can see why thinking about this could lead you to informing them about the project so that they aren't frustrated during the project. I remember when an apartment complex was built close to my parent's house. At first they didn't like it. However, the owner of the complex organized a meeting with the neighbors to keep them informed of what was happening. This really helped them accept it.

Thanks Scott for sharing that experience. In fact the contractor working on a house near us used the opportunity when they let neighbours know they needed to close the road for a morning for a crane to explain what they were doing and to advertise their work.

Thanks for the reminder to make sure all of the environmental and planning permits are in place, and that their conditions have been communicated to the team. My husband and I want to have a custom home built soon and are currently looking to find the construction team. I'm glad I read your article because I had forgotten about getting the permits sorted out.

Environmental concerns are so commonly overlooked in basic construction projects. Especially when working with homeowners on smaller projects because they typically don't think of it. It's always important to do basic due diligence on any impacts a project might have on the surrounding areas. Great article!
